Yuyay's first collection was found in Santa Fe, New Mexico—a place shaped by longstanding artistic traditions and a meeting point for artists, makers and collectors from around the world.
Collection 01 brings together folk art, jewellery, ceramics, textiles and sculptural objects discovered principally at the International Folk Art Market, with one piece acquired at the Santa Fe Indian Market.
Rather than offering large quantities of the same thing, Yuyay presents small, carefully assembled collections. Each object is selected individually for its craftsmanship, character and connection to place. Many pieces are one of a kind, and each is presented with information about its maker, materials, techniques and cultural origins whenever these details are known.
Meeting artists and learning about their work was central to forming this collection. Their stories are shared so that each object can be understood not simply as something beautiful, but as the expression of a particular person, tradition and way of making.
Collection 01: Santa Fe is where Yuyay begins—a collection of remarkable finds, chosen to be remembered.
The name Yuyay comes from a Quechua word associated with memory, thought and remembering. It reflects the belief at the heart of the business: that objects can hold memories—of the people who made them, the cultures and traditions they emerged from, and the lives they become part of.
Yuyay is an independent, one-woman business based in Australia.
It grew from my love of folk art, travel, unusual beauty and the kinds of objects that invite a closer look. I have always been drawn to things that reveal the mark of their maker—pieces with individuality, history, humour and vitality.
Every object here was chosen in person. I meet the makers whenever I can, listen to how they work, and learn what their pieces mean in the places they come from. Those conversations matter to me and I try to pass them on faithfully.
Yuyay is my way of sharing these discoveries and giving each one the space and attention it deserves. These are not simply objects to fill a room. They are remarkable finds, chosen to be remembered.
Write with the piece you have in mind and any questions you may have about the piece. I'd be happy to chat!
